HUNDREDS of Redbridge students proved they are “the real deal” when they converged on Redbridge Town Hall with their families and friends to celebrate winning Jack Petchey achievement awards.
The youngsters collected their awards from VIPs, and heard Jack Petchey Foundation grants officer Jane Evans describe them as “amazing, astounding” and the “real deal”.
The award winners were joined by a talented array of young artistes who provided the entertainment.
Ruth Brown wowed the audience with her power ballads, with the other highlights provided by dancers Mehreen Kauser, Shazia Kauser and Garav Talwar, Ediz Ibrahim and Katherine Thacker and some uplifting gospel by Ilford Ursuline Gospel Choir. Singer Gabriele Paviukovaite completed the bill.
Mayor of Redbridge Cllr Jim O’Shea, who was pictured with all the winners, said: “It is fantastic to see the Town Hall overflowing, plus the many schools represented and winners who have inspired others.
“The entertainment was great and it’s a real privilege to be among so many deserving young people and leaders.”
Cllr Alan Weinberg, cabinet member for children’s services, was full of praise for the winners and for the foundation saying: “We are so pleased to work with the foundation which recognises the excellent contribution our young people make to society.”
