Tim Smith from Redbridge College was named Outstanding BTEC Teacher/Tutor of the year 2015 award at the Royal Horticultural Halls.

The innovative teacher was given more votes than other nominees to scoop the prestigious prize from Pearson Education, which celebrates achievements in the most widely taken vocational qualification in the UK.

Commenting on his award Tim Smith, said: “I work to make sure that I inspire young people as much as they inspire me. BTEC enables me to make the aspirations of our young artists real and ready for the ever growing Creative Industries”.

Mr Smith is curriculum operation manager for the Compass Programme at Redbridge College in Chadwell Heath, which attracted 100 students during the last academic year.

The new level 1 course helps students to develop the skills needed to make choices about their future, and teach them skills to progress to a higher course or into employment.
