A former Redbridge College student who achieved top grades despite suffering from cerebral palsy and epilepsy has opened a new building named in his honour.
A former Redbridge College student who achieved top grades despite suffering from cerebral palsy and epilepsy has opened a new building named in his honour.
The Brook Centre, which houses study and learning support areas, is named in honour of Luke Brook.
Cutting the ribbon last month, he spoke about the “exceptional” teachers and friends he made during his four years at the college in Little Heath.
The 25-year-old from Hornchurch said: “During my school years I struggled to apply myself to the national curriculum, and I arrived at Redbridge College with not very good grades.
“They were, however, welcoming – nothing was too difficult regarding the support I needed.”
He left with a triple distinction and has since graduated from the University of East London with a degree in sports coaching.
Another former student, Gopal Chand, opened the new iZone technology suite on the same day.
Gopal, 20, from Ilford, studied in the business department and is working with Redbridge College Career Academy students.
