Redbridge children get reading and add a splash of colour while they’re at it

A special face painting and story time session was held at the borough’s busiest library to keep children enjoying books over the summer

The event, which was held at Redbridge Central Library, Clements Road, Ilford on Thursday, was run by library staff and volunteers who signed up as part of the Love Libraries, Love Volunteering scheme.

It was also part of the Summer Reading Challenge (Story Lab) promotion, which aims to keep the love of reading and books relevant during the summer holidays, which children can sign up for in any one of Redbridge’s libraries.

A Redbridge Council spokesman said: “The session went really well. There were over 40 people there for the storytelling and 19 children signed up to have their faces painted.”

Story Lab is also linked to the 2012 Olympics and is an official project in the Cultural Olympiad.
