A school has had to close its doors after bacteria was found in its water supply.
A routine check at Nightingale Primary School in Ashbourne Avenue, South Woodford, identified legionella bacteria in two of the school’s water outlets.
Children were sent home yesterday afternoon, with the school expecting to reopen on Thursday.
A statement issued on the school’s website read: “Legionella bacteria are commonly found in water systems and are considered to be low risk when managed correctly.
“As a precautionary measure the school was closed. Work began immediately and continued through the night so that the school could reopen as soon as possible.
“The council is following the guidance issued by the health & safety executive and is liaising with Public Health England to ensure that there are no risks to pupils or staff.”
