Pupils and staff at Mossford Green Primary School, Fairlop Road, Barkingside, spent last week getting into the Olympic mood.

Ahead of the global sporting event in east London this summer, children held their own opening ceremony with a flag procession and lit an Olympic torch.

Key Stage 2 pupils were all given pedometers and set the challenge of walking the equivalent of an athletics track in their school day.

Catherine Vorster, the school’s PE coordinator, said: “During the week the year five class constructed a stadium to rival the one in the Olympic Park.

“Great attention was paid to detail and the stadium included spectators and athletes modelled out of plasticine.

“A showcase assembly was held at the end of the week to display work that each class had done.”

On Friday, all of the school came dressed in the colours of the Olympic rings before forming a human version of them in the playground.

It was described as the highlight of the week by Ms Vorster.
