A young chess prodigy from Newbury Park has been playing his biggest game yet with a giant outdoor chess set in central London.
Devdoot Barman, of Brook Road, is the current junior champion of both the Ilford Chess Club and the Wanstead Chess Club and had numerous titles under his belt before he even hit his teens.
As a member of the Pimlico Chess Club, the 14-year-old was invited to unveil the first of Westminster City Council’s new outdoor chess sets in Soho on Thursday.
He was joined by Samir Samadov, 11, who represented England in the European Schools Chess Championships in June, and Cllr Frixos Tombolis.
Cllr Tombolis, member for transport and environment, said chess will be a “focus for people to come together, enjoy the fresh air and exercise their minds as well as their bodies”.
