Visitors to a popular take-away restaurant might have noticed something fishy last week when London Mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith helped out behind the counter.
Together with Keith Prince, Conservative candidate for the Greater London Assembly’s Havering and Redbridge seat, Mr Goldsmith visited Hi-Tide, on High Road, Barkingside, where he promised to reel in a better deal for independent businesses.
Cllr Prince (Con, Barkingside) told the Recorder all about the potential mayor’s experience serving up fish and chips to surprised residents.
He said: “Zac thought the fish and chips were delicious, he enjoyed handing them out and getting to meet people.”
The councillor also revealed that Mr Goldsmith’s trip to Redbridge wasn’t limited to the chippy.
He said: “He also went into a pharmacy and met the staff. It’s all part of what he believes in, supporting local businesses and protecting local high streets, which is what he’ll do as mayor.”
Mr Goldsmith takes on Labour’s Saddiq Khan in the London mayoral election on May 5.
