Youngsters getting their first taste of the spotlight thrilled hundreds of parents during their school’s annual drama showcase last week.
Highlands Primary School in Highlands Gardens, Ilford, held their annual drama production last week, bringing to life the classic tale of Peter Pan.
The entire production was choreographed and directed by the school’s head of drama, Harsheron Kaur.
She said: “The children showed professionalism and commitment beyond their years.
“The quality of acting and dancing was award-winning. It takes true talent to move an audience and my cast did just that. I am so proud of them.”
Over four days, the largest ever cast of any Highlands show – 85 children aged 5-11 – wowed hundreds of parents who flocked to the school to see the story brought to life in a series of sell-out shows.
Each night saw audiences go wild, jumping up and down in the aisles and singing along with the catchy numbers.

Ryan Mayalama, who played Peter Pan himself, said:“The show was a great experience for me as a young actor, I enjoyed things such as the dances and being on stage with lighting, but the best experience was when I flew and saw 100 people smiling back at me and believing.”
The production put a modern twist on the tale.
Asif Ameen, who played Hook, said he had loved every second of taking part: “I will never forget this show and I didn’t want it to end”. Miss Kaur helped me by showing and directing me how to be an exceptional Captain hook with an amazing facial expression.”
