An Ilford Primary School celebrated its expansion on Friday with singing and Bollywood dancing.

Christchurch Primary School, in Wellesley Road, can now take an extra 210 pupils after a six month building project.

There are seven new classrooms, a group room, a parents’ room, a new dining area for, an ICT suite, toilets, Jubilee Hall and remodelled playground.

Pupils, school staff and councillors gathered in the playground to mark the occasion.

Pupil Adaliah took to the stage to sing the Miley Cyrus song The Climb before Bollywood dancer Honey Kalaria, from Honey’s Dance Academy in Newbury Park, put guests through their paces.

Headteacher Kevin Baskill said: “We now have some amazing facilities that will ensure we continue to maintain high standards.

“We can remain a strong community school with a children’s centre that can serve the need of the local area.”

Cabinet member for children’s services Cllr Alan Weinberg said he was “extremely pleased” the school can now take more pupils.

The school was enlarged to cope with increasing demand for places in Redbridge.
