Pupils at Mayespark Primary School, Goodmayes Lane, Goodmayes, descended on the playground to run as many laps as they could in 15 minutes.

The children were sponsored by family and friends in the lead up to the race which was held on Friday.

The young runners also wore special tags which said who they were racing for. Some chose family members while one pupil said he was running “for everyone who suffered from cancer”.

Luckily the sun was shining for the event which was organised by the school council.

Senior administrator at the school, Michaela Cutler, said: “It was great to see everyone joining in. We had pupils from nursery up to Year 6 taking part and they all enjoyed it.

“The weather was really nice too, which always helps!”

The races were staggered out throughout the day to allow everyone to participate and also took place on Monday.
