History came alive for pupils at one high school as they chatted to influential figures dating back to the sixteenth century.

One teacher from each department at Seven Kings High School, Ley Street, Seven Kings dressed as a character that is studied as part of the school history curriculum last week.

Students arrived at school to find a Boer War soldier hunting down recruits, Matthew Hopkins on a witch hunt and even Elizabeth I patrolling the grounds.

The aim of the day was to inspire students and to encourage them to ask questions. Year 9 student Jack Wilson said: “There was a buzz around the school, we were all asking the teachers who they were.

“I can’t wait to learn about the Suffragette, Emily Davison, next year because I learned a few things about her yesterday and I want to know more”.
