Aspiring Redbridge chefs go head-to-head in national cookery competition

Two young chefs from Redbridge are pitting their culinary skills against each other in the London final of a national cookery competition tomorrow.
As part of the Rotary Young Chef contest, Connor Bay, from Trinity Catholic High School in Woodford Green, and Caoimhe McClelland from the Ursuline Academy in Ilford, will compete to go onto the regional finals.
The two cookery enthusiasts won the north and east London stage held at Caterham High School, in Caterham Avenue, Clayhall, last week.
Pupils aged between 11 and 17 from across Redbridge and neighbouring boroughs tried to wow judges with their original dishes, including salmon en croute, thai curry, lamp shank and spiced chicken.
Organiser Sugra Tahir, of Gants Hill Rotary Club, said: “The competition promotes healthy eating and gets young people into cooking.
“The standard is very high every year.”
Connor and Caoimhe will compete against other London finalists at Westminster Kingsway College, where Jamie Oliver studied, tomorrow.
The winners will go on to the regional final for a possible place in the national final.
