Parents were treated to a one-off African drumming performance by pupils at a Gants Hill school, who have been learning to play for a number of weeks.

Year 4 students at Gearies Junior School, Gants Hill Crescent, invited friends and family to a multi-cultural music show on Friday.

This term, youngsters have been working with world music tutor Seth Newman, from the Redbridge Music School, on a performance incorporating African drumming and body percussion.

Deputy headteacher Caroline Hadley said: “The children have been inspired and engaged by the work and final performance, which has promoted inclusion, diversity, co-operative skills and a love of music. We have been very fortunate to work with Seth over several years as the performances that he has produced for us have been consistently brilliant. His work has broadened the children’s knowledge and appreciation of world music.”
