Students from Chigwell School are set to rock the science world after two won gold medals in the British Physics Olympics, making them some of the best young physicists in the country.
They are among five A-level students at the school in High Road, Chigwell, picked for the International Physics Olympiad in Thailand in July, which tests youngsters who excel in the subject.
Physics teacher Andrew McKenzie said: “These students were the cream of the best. Around 2,000 pupils across the county took part in the exercise – a three-hour exam.
“Out of these, 50 nationally have been selected, and the best of these will become a part of the British physics team.”
Jacub Sanak and Andi Reci won gold, and fellow students Nwachukwu Uzo achieved a silver, Yixian Chen a bronze, and Omar Williams a commendation.
The British physics team consists of pupils who are regarded as best at the subject and changes every year.
Mr McKenzie added: “The calibre of students we had this year was fantastic. I can’t remember when we last had two gold medal winners.”
The International Physics Olympics will be held in Bangkok from July 10-18.
