A talented Chadwell Heath pupil has won a music scholarship from the mayor of London.

Trumpet player Alexander Robinson, nine, will get four years of teaching and opportunities to attend concerts and perform.

The St Bede’s Catholic Primary was chosen because of his exceptional ability and was one of 66 other children aged between seven and 11 who celebrated their achievements at a City Hall ceremony last month.

Award patron and mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “Sadly, too many families in London cannot afford to pay for music lessons, even for very talented children.

“By investing in these scholarships, the fund is enriching the lives of hundreds of children and also making sure London remains the top city in the world for all kinds of music.

“I wish the fund and these 66 talented scholars every success.”

The Mayor’s Fund for Young Musicians has awarded 666,000 in grants since January.
