The August winner of the Young Citizen Award pulls no punches.
Kiranjit Dhillon, 19, of Valentines Road, Ilford, was recognised by judges for setting up her own boxing club. She teaches non-contact skills of the ring to 10 to 16-year-olds, including three deaf children, in classes at Frenford Clubs, The Jack Carter Centre, The Drive, Ilford.
The former Beal High School pupil says taking up the sport helped her to channel her anger when she was younger. She said: “You have to reach a level of fitness, you have to push yourself to be the best you can be.”
She volunteers at Frenford Clubs six days a week and hopes to become a youth worker. She will receive 40 in vouchers to spend at the Exchange Ilford retailer of her choice.
