Dramatic video footage of Ilford car workshop blaze emerges

Dramatic video footage has emerged of the moment a fire swept through a car repair workshop, leaving a man in hospital with burns.

The images were captured by Scott Dubay and Kimberley Plant on Mr Dubay’s iPhone shortly after the fire broke out at Mario’s Car Care in Ilford Lane, Ilford at 9.20pm yesterday.

It shows flames rising several metres above the yard of the workshop and a thick plume of black smoke rising into the dusk sky, while dozens of bystanders look on.

Mr Dubay, who lives round the corner in Loxford Road, was one of the first people on the scene. He said: “I saw a big plume of smoke out of my bathroom window so I rushed around. I was there as the first fire truck arrived.

“I heard a big boom but I don’t know what it was. The flames were coming out of the back of the mechanics to about half the height of a tree, it was very dramatic and there were lots of spectators.”
