Pupils, parents and teachers all pitched in to ensure Downshall Primary School’s annual summer fair was a success.
The annual fete, at the school in Mead Lane, was also celebrated as a “unity festival” this year, in order to recognise the school’s multicultural environment.
On the day, religious leaders joined the celebrations last Friday, where a brightly decorated wall of unity, handprinted by the pupils, was revealed.
Headteacher Ian Bennett said he was delighted to see the community unite to celebrate the school’s spirit and ethos.
He said: “Our community unity festival has seen a coming together of parents and local leaders to send a clear message to our pupils of our values and commitment to support each other as a united, multi-cultural community.
“A number of parents have shared heartwarming messages which we have put on our website. The children have been learning about community spirit and the important values of respect, equality and tolerance.
“Also present at our festival were representatives from Lions, Woodford & Wanstead, the Sky Sharma Foundation, NELFT and Age UK who together play an important part in our community cohesion and were happy to answer any questions our parents and children may have had. “
