A school will soon be making a splash after a parent organised a charity dinner dance, raising a staggering £7,000 to expand a swimming pool for children with special needs.
Mother of two Lena Pillai, of Hainault, helped to organised an evening of food and music to raise funds for the splash pool at Hatton School and Special Needs Centre in Roding Lane South, Woodford Green.
She said: “Both my sons have autism and this school has done so much to bring up their confidence and I want to repay them for everything they have done for our family.” The event, that took place at the Holiday Inn, in Newbury Park, saw parents, members of staff and children enjoy a three course meal, a DJ, and speeches made by Hatton School’s ex-pupils.
Lena said: “These ex-pupils spoke from their heart about how the school has changed their lives and it was really moving to listen to.”
Anita Dey, events co-ordinator at Pink Ice UK which hosted the event, said the night had been a success.
The pool will enable more disabled children to safely experience swimming.
