The oldest resident of a Seven Kings street came out on Sunday to enjoy the first street party she has seen in the area since she first moved in, in 1949.

Eighty-seven year old Erna Robinson, of Glencoe Avenue, moved into her home where she currently lives, from Austria, 63 years ago but this was the first time there had been a royal celebration and she was determined not to miss out.

Mrs Robinson said: “I am having such a lovely time and getting to know my neighbours despite living in this street for such a long time. It is the first time since I have lived here that we have done something like this.

“I remember the Queen’s coronation and I just can’t believe it is 60 years ago. The residents didn’t have a party back then, or for Charles and Diana’s wedding so it is lovely that we have finally all come together.”

Erna, despite missing the countryside when she first arrived in Redbridge, was one of the organisers of the party which was a great success and saw hundreds of families attend.

She said: “My husband, who died three years ago, really loved the Queen very much, she is a lovely lady. I am looking forward to watching the flotilla, which all my relatives in Vienna will be doing too.

“They have asked me to send some Jubilee memorabilia to them also because they love the whole celebration and they wish they were here to see it.”

Mrs Robinson added: “Hopefully the next party will be my 90th.”
