The M11 has now reopened between junction four and junction six after a woman became trapped in a car following a four-vehicle crash on Friday morning.
The stretch of motorway between South Woodford and Theydon Garnon was closed for around five hours.
Firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service used specialist cutting equipment to release the woman just before 10.30am.
Two crews from Loughton fire station and one from Epping were called to the scene.
