The death of a pregnant mother – shot with a crossbow in her Newbury Park home – has shocked the nation and community members are coming together in support of her husband and six children.
Doctors carried out an emergency caesarean to save the life of 35-year-old Sana Muhammad’s unborn child after she was hit in the stomach with a crossbow bolt on Monday, November 12.
Police were called at around 7.40am that day to reports of a disturbance at her home in Applegarth Drive.
Officers and paramedics attended and found Sana injured. She was taken to hospital where she later died.
A Met Police spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that the baby was delivered and remains in hospital in a stable condition.”
Neighbour Nisa Khan, 40, told the Recorder that Sana changed her name, from Devi Unmathallegadoo, and converted to Islam when she remarried seven years ago.
Sana leaves behind her husband Imtiaz and six children, including the newborn, she said.
Nisa spoke of how she would see Sana at least three times a day, their children often playing together.
“We were more than friends,” she said.
She added: “We knew each other for seven years – the memories will always stay with us.”
A GoFundMe page aiming to raise £10,0000 for Sana’s family has been set up by friend who has known Sana since 2010, and does not wish to be named.
“Her husband Imtiaz is going to have to raise six children alone,” she said.
“We want to do something from the heart. We’re doing it for her children.”
Mohamed Omer, from Gardens of Peace Cemetery, Hainault, said the cemetery has offered to hold Sana’s funeral free of charge.
“The complete and entire community are shocked about the events that have occurred,” he said.
“As a community we would like to be their to support the community as best we can.”
Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, of no fixed abode, and believed to be her ex-partner, is next due to appear in court at Old Bailey charged with Sana’s murder today, Thursday, November 15.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.
