An initiative to raise awareness of security and counter terrorism policing in the capital launched yesterday.

Run by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), the City of London Police (CoLP) and the British Transport Police (BTP), the week of coordinated activity will aim to remind residents of the significant role they can play in protecting the streets of London.

All 32 boroughs, including Redbridge, will be undertaking activity for the operation until June 15, using tactics such as automated number plate recognition and high-visibility patrols around crowded areas such as shopping centres and stations.

Thousands of staff from businesses will also be briefed on what they can do to protect themselves and their companies from terrorism, as part of the established Project Griffin.

Specialist operations are coordinating the operation with local MPS officers.

If anyone has any information about any unusual activity or behaviour, they should contact the confidential anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789 321.

If it is an emergency, residents need to call 999.
