Hundreds of children will be returning to Winston Way Primary School after their Easter holidays still without a permanent headteacher.

Mark Mahoney, who led the school, in Winston Way, since it opened in 2007, has not been at work since the beginning of December.

No explanation has been given for his absence, leaving confused parents demanding answers.

Commenting on Facebook, Deepy Bharaj said: “Why not tell the parents what is happening?

“A headmaster goes missing and no one cares…no wonder Winston Way came last in the schools table.”

Franchesca Pinamang added: “As a parent, I think we should be informed of what’s going on.

“I find it very unfair.”

Despite repeated inquiries from the Recorder, Redbridge Council has refused to say why Mr Mahoney is away.

A spokesman said: “The council is unable to comment on this matter.”

Debbie Webb, head of Grove Primary School in Chadwell Heath, is also acting as head of Winston Way, which came bottom in the latest government league table of Redbridge primary schools.
