Doctors have carried out an emergency caesarean to save the life of an unborn child after a pregnant Newbury Park mother died following a confrontation in her home.

Police were called at around 7.40am on Monday (November 12) to reports of a disturbance at a home in Applegarth Drive.

Officers and paramedics attended and found 35-year-old Devi Unmathallegadoo, known locally as Sana Muhammad, suffering a wound to her abdomen.

She was taken to an east London hospital where she later died.

A Met Police spokeswoman told the Recorder: “We can confirm that the baby was delivered and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Neighbour Navneet Buttar, 35, was at home at time of the incident and described Sana as a “very nice lady” and that she was due to give birth in December.

“She was my friend on this road,” she added.

“Her kids and my kids go to nursery together.”

Navneet said that, in addition to the newborn, Sana had five children.

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said that Sana changed her name after she remarried seven years ago and converted to Islam.

Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, of no fixed abode, and believed to be her ex-partner, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday, November 13) accused of her murder.

He is next due to appear in court at Old Bailey on November 15.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command investigate.
