Police investigating the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old are appealing for information about a car found burnt out in Wanstead, near the park.

On April 2 officers found Ahmed Deen-Jah in Freemasons Road, Canning Town, suffering multiple stab wounds.

He had been the victim of a “brutal” knife attack, and died 10 minutes after the emergency services arrived.

An hour earlier a black Mercedes CLK 220 was seen on the A406, near the A12 at Redbridge roundabout.

That car was then found burnt out in Warren Road, which leads to Wanstead Park, at 11.30pm that evening.

Officers now believe this car is connected to the murder of Ahmed, and are appealing for anyone who saw it that day to call the police.

Det Ch Insp Gary Holmes, the investigating officer, said: “The movements of this car form a vital part of this investigation and we need to work out its whereabouts from when it was spotted shortly before 2.30pm on April 2 and when it was discovered burnt out later that night.

“If you remember seeing this car in between those timeframes, or have any information that could assist the investigation, I would urge you to call police.”

The black Mercedes has the licence plate KJ06CCZ.

Five people have been arrested on suspicion of Ahmed’s murder.

All have been bailed pending further enquiries to dates in May.

On April 2, two 21-year-old men and a 20-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murder.

On April 4 a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

On April 10 a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
