Ilford North MP Wes Streeting is urging residents with any information about the murder of Moses Mayele to come forward.

The 23-year old was killed on his birthday on Friday (October 12) on Manford Way, Hainault.

A burnt out car found in Clayhall - only a few hundred yards from Mr Streeting’s office - was also investigated in connection to the incident.

Mr Streeting said everything possible will be done to bring the perpetrator to justice.

“A family is now without a father, son, partner and brother because of this terrible murder,” he said.

“They have my deepest condolences, but right now they deserve answers.

“Someone must know something.

“I’d urge anyone with any information to come forward to the police or to make a report anonymously to Crimestoppers.

“I have been in touch with the Mayor of London and the police and everything possible will be done to find whoever is responsible for this.”

Council leader, Councillor Jas Athwal said he was devastated to hear about the tragedy and his thoughts and prayers go out to Moses’ family and friends who are going through “unimaginable trauma having lost Moses in such terrible circumstances”.

“A young man, with everything to live for, gone in seconds on his birthday, I am numb with shock,” he said.

“To experience such violence in our borough, on our doorstep is shocking and unacceptable.

“My son is around the same age as Moses and I worry for him and all the incredible young people in our borough.

“There is a clear correlation in the rise in crime and the unprecedented cuts to police numbers.

“The council cannot solve this problem alone but I will do everything possible to help find justice for Moses and stop other families from ever going through similar heartbreak.”

Hainault councillor Mark Santos said he feels deeply saddened for Moses’ family and shocked that it “happened in our area”.

He is encouraging those with information - no matter how small to flag it up to the Met.

“I can’t imagine the family’s grief and what they are feeling,” he said.

“They are in my neighbourhood, they are my neighbours.

“I hope whoever did this is caught so there is some kind of justice for the family.”

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, tweeted out a statement saying that he is in close contact with the police about a stabbing in Hainault.

He said that violent crime ruins lives and devastates communities and every single London borough now has a bespoke knife crime action plan created in partnership with the Met police.

A Mayor of London spokeswoman said: “Prevention is more effective than enforcement, but the fact remains that after years of government underfunding and cuts, the Met Police is significantly underfunded causing a huge drain on resources and officer numbers are falling.

“Time and again, we have called on the government, who are responsible for more than 70per cent of the Met Police budget, to do the right thing and give our police the funds they need to keep us safe. But they have refused.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to help keep our young Londoners safe.”

Anyone with information or footage about the fire and burnt out car in Clayhall or the murder should call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 8451/12Oct.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
