Met Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the incident on Hainault Street on Tuesday at around 7pm.
Speaking to the Recorder, one eyewitness to the assault claimed a pedestrian had been “stabbed in the head with a pen” during the incident.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “We are investigating an allegation of assault, which is on the back of an incident which happened on Hainault Street on June 17.
“At this very early stage it is believed that a bus driver, who was at a bus stand, was involved in an altercation with a pedestrian.”
A man in his 20s was taken to King George Hospital, Ilford, where he was treated for a head injury.
The spokeswoman said inquiries were continuing, with no arrests having been made.
