A 26-year-old man who attempted to steal lead from a bank’s roof has been given a community order.
Liam Godwin-Jones, of York Road, Ilford, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on March 4 after committing the offence the day before.
A member of the public saw the offender at 1am on the roof of the Lloyds Bank in Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill, making what they described as a “cutting and pulling” motion.
When police officers attended, they discovered Godwin-Jones crouched near an air conditioning unit.
The top of the unit had been cut off and a pair of pliers were found nearby.
Godwin-Jones, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to a community order of 100 hours which must be completed by March 3 2015.
