Those were the words of Judge Wendy Joseph QC after an Old Bailey jury today found Irvingas Makasejevas, 40, guilty of the murder of Edgaras Kondrotas in Forest Gate in January.

Mr Kondrotas, 28, a Lithuanian national living in Goodmayes, was found dead at Makasejevas’ home address in Sebert Road, on January 12.

He had suffered multiple injuries - probably caused by being stamped on - which had led to a massive internal bleed.

The court heard that the day before Mr Kondrotas had been drinking in the Leyton area with his girlfriend.

In the early hours of the following morning, between 12.40am and 2.03am, he was in the company of Makasejevas - who he is believed to have met that night - in and around the area of Sebert Road.

At about 5.30am Makasejevas, also a Lithuanian national, was captured on CCTV leaving the area.

Despite the cold weather he was partially dressed and not wearing any shoes.

Some 10 hours later, Makasejevas arrived at Forest Gate Police Station and told officers that “a man had died in his room”.

Detectives attended and found the body of Edgaras Kondrotas.

Makasejevas was arrested and taken into custody where he told officers that he had been drinking in his room with Edgaras, and had let him sleep on his floor only to wake up and find him dead.

Makasejevas was bailed while the investigation continued.

On January 20 detectives from the homicide and major crime command re-arrested Makasejevas, and he was charged with murder.

Det Insp Rob Pack said: “Edgaras Kondrotas suffered a brutal attack at the hands of Makasejevas.

“Makasejevas consistently denied assaulting him, but the evidence we gathered has shown today that he did, and in doing so, he murdered him.”

Sentencing is due to take place at the Old Bailey on Friday.
