Three men who killed a 19-year-old in Ilford have been jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 30 years.

Abdi Sheikhey was gunned down, while sitting in a hired black Mercedes E250, in Woodlands Road, just after 10pm on March 21.

Sami Omar, 21, and Suleman Mohamed, 20, both of Kingston Road, Ilford, as well as Jordi Kibusi, 20, of Wisteria Close, Ilford, were jailed at the Old Bailey today.

In the planned attack, the killers left their BMW running as they fired seven shots in quick succession directly at the teenager in 13 seconds, four of them hitting him.

Prosecution lawyer Anthony Orchard QC told the court that all four men were drug dealers who operated around the borough.

The night before his death, Abdi was seen threatening Omar with a large knife in Chester Chicken Shop, Ilford Lane.

On CCTV, Abdi was captured swinging his knife at Omar whilst two friend of Abdi’s stand in the doorway brandishing a brick and a bottle.

Chairs were thrown by both groups before Abdi and the two men with him left the shop.

Following the dispute, Omar, Mohamed and Kibusi set out the following night in a hired white BMW X4 to seek revenge, the court heard.

Along Woodlands Road, the BMW, which had been hired by Kibusi, pulled up alongside Abdi while he was sat in the passenger seat of the stationary Mercedes.

One of the three men then went up to the side window, with his face covered, and fired seven shots using a gun, which appeared to be a self-loading pistol.

Even though the prosecution could not say which of them had fired the gun, Judge Anuja Dhir said it was clear that they “were all in it together”.

Now, promising footballer Omar, Kibusi, and Mohamed, face a long stretch behind bars.

The defence lawyer for Kibusi, 21, revealed that the defendant had gained six GCSE’s whilst behind bars.

Mr Pardoe said that all three men had grown up in a world where “actions and consequences were completely devoid from each other.”

Before sentencing the trio, Judge Dhir said the starting point for murders with a gun was at least 30 years in prison and the crime was made worse because it was pre-meditated, they intended to kill, and it was drugs-related.

However, she told the defendants she had decided not to increase their sentences because of their youth and the circumstances of the case.

Abdi had hoped to get married and wanted to work as a mechanic, his brother Almed told the court.

In a statement read aloud, he said that he had believed that Abdi’s killers were his friends.

He said: “The whole family is still in shock and found it very hard to come to terms with it.

“He was far too young and loved his niece and nephews who can’t believe it.”

He added: “What makes his death even worse is that he knew the people who shot him, people who were his friends. How could they do this?

“These sorts of murders have to stop. The people responsible should not be allowed to do this to anyone else.”
