A CORONER has ruled a grandmother was crushed to death in a lift when the brake mechanism malfunctioned.
Christine Allen, 50, died from multiple injuries after the lift in Lambourne Court, Navestock Crescent, Woodford Green accelerated upwards when she got in.
Mrs Allen, who had visited daughter Laura Dawkins, became wedged between the bottom of the lift and lift shaft on August 8 last year.
Yesterday (Wednesday) a jury at Walthamstow Coroner’s Court returned a verdict of accidental death.
Coroner Dr Elizabeth Stearns said: “It’s clear that Christine Allen was trapped in a lift which had malfunctioned and as a result of the impact she sustained fatal injuries.”
