Detectives have issued a further appeal for witnesses following the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old man in Goodmayes on Thursday.

Police were called at around 12.40am on Thursday, to reports of a man being knifed inside the Basement Lounge Shisha Bar, in Goodmayes Road.

He was taken to hospital but died an hour later.

Police have now confirmed the victim is Ziggy Worrell-Owusu, 19, from Hackney.

Next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination took place on Friday which gave the cause of death as a stab wound.

Detective have established that Ziggy attended an 18th birthday party with a group of his friends at the venue and there were approximately 100 people in attendance.

At some point during the evening an altercation occurred which led to Ziggy being stabbed.

Det Insp Euan McKeeve of the Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the investigation.

He said: “There were a large number of young people inside the venue and who would have witnessed this incident, and the events that led up to it.

“Some of these people may be reluctant to tell police what happened but I would urge them to come forward of their own accord and speak to us.

“We are working through the evidence in our possession to establish who was at the party and we will identify all those who were there.”

Det Insp McKeeve also appealed to the parents of teenagers at the party.

“If you are concerned that your teenager may be a witness or unwittingly involved, please speak to them and contact us in confidence. We can discuss various ways you can support our investigation,” he said.

There have been no arrests and inquiries continue.
