Elderly man killed in crash ‘was on day trip to Norfolk’

An elderly man who has died after being hit by a van in Norfolk this morning is believed to have been on a group visit from Chigwell.

The man, a pedestrian, was killed in Thetford after being hit by a Mercedes van on Brandon Road at around 11.40am today.

He is believed to have been visiting the town with a group of about 70 people from a society in Chigwell.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said the road remained closed between the A11 roundabout and the Santon Downham junction while emergency services deal with the incident.

The driver of the van was not injured.
