The man who shot a Woodford Green businessman at point blank range as he worked in his cafe has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Temidire Owolabi, 22, of Chafford Hundred, entered Cakes and Shakes, in High Road, on November 14 2011 and shot 24-year-old James Bryant twice at point-blank range.

His mother and friends witnessed the shooting in broad daylight.

They were clearing up mess in the closed cafe from when the window was blasted out with a shotgun days before.

Mr Bryant survived the attack but fell into a coma and spent two months recovering in hospital.

Owolabi was sentenced to 24 years for attempted murder and 15 years for possession of a firearm at the Old Bailey today.

He was cleared of blowing out the window with a shotgun, of conspiracy to murder and of a further count of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life relating to the shotgun.

The sentences will run concurrently.
