Travelling the globe to research dementia care – Australians visit Goodmayes for fact-finding tour

PUBLISHED: 08:30 20 October 2012

A group of Australian professionals visited an NHS trust to find out about the latest research in dementia care last week.

North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT), Barley Lane, Goodmayes, invited the group from south Australia as part of a fact-finding tour on the latest therapies and technology on offer to help people with dementia.

The visitors were from ACH, a not for profit organisation providing retirement living, residential and nursing home care for elderly people.

The group were welcomed to the research and development department for an overview of the mental health and community health services NELFT provides, including Cognitive Stimulation Therapy.

Research and development director Prof Martin Orrell said: “The visit to NELFT was great for the group as it enabled them to see how our dementia research is gathering pace.

“They were particularly interested in opportunities to collaborate with NELFT around implementing research findings into practice, and exploring the potential for using technology throughout their organisation.”
