An Ilford pensioner due to stand trial after denying five charges of historical child abuse has died, but a case against his wife and two of his sons – who have denied 14 charges of child cruelty between them – is set to continue.

Tony Parasram, of Wellesley Road, died late last month at the age of 80.

Appearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on June 13 this year, he denied five charges of indecent assault.

He also denied seven separate counts of cruelty to a person under the age of 16.

He was due to stand trial next year alongside wife Rajpati Parasram, 73, and sons Clyde Mahindra Parasram, 46, and Adrian Navindra Parasram, 45, all of Wellesley Road; as well as son Anthony Ravi Parasaram, 45, who lives in Balfour Road, Ilford.

Rajpati and Adrian each face five charges of cruelty to a person under the age of 16 in relation to the same two alleged victims on unknown dates between January 1, 1990 and January 1, 1998.

Anthony Parasram faces four.

All three charges against Clyde Parasram were dropped on October 19.

The defendants were granted bail and the trial is expected to last 15 weeks from January 14.
