Two thieves broke into an Ilford place of worship and stole around £600.
Police were called to VHP Ilford Hindu Centre in Cleveland Road after burglars entered the premises at around 3.40am on Thursday, December 6.
VHP Ilford Hindu Centre chairman Darshan Chodha said before the break-in the centre had asked worshippers to buy a fundraising calendar and to leave the money on site.
“We last collected all the money that was there on Monday, but everything after that was taken,” he said.
“People were asked to donate £1 for the calendar, but some people left much more.
“Police came in to take fingerprints, but if anyone recognises the people please call the police.
A Met police spokesman confirmed they were called to reports of a burglary and are looking into the incident.
“It is believed unknown suspects gained access to the building by forcing open a window between 8pm on Wednesday, 5 December and 8am the next day.
“A quantity of money is reported to have been taken from a donation box.”
