Three adults and a child believed they were trapped in a flat after a suspected arson attack this morning.

The group were safely escorted from Daisy House in High Road, Goodmayes, after a fire was lit in the stairwell below the residential flats.

London Fire Brigade called the police around 5am this morning as they suspect the fire was set intentionally, although this is still under investigation and an official arson investigation has not been launched yet.

The watch manager for Ilford fire station said: “There were no injuries but there was a lot of smoke which cleared fairly quickly after ventilation.

“It is a suspected arson and is a crime scene at the moment as it is under investigation.”
