A Redbridge man will appear in court tomorrow charged with the murder of an elderly woman in Hornchurch earlier this week.

Thomas Blazquez, 50, who is unemployed, is accused of murdering Rosemary Shearman on Tuesday and is due before Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

In the wake of her death, a devastated friend described the 77-year-old grandmother-of-five as “kind hearted” and “good as gold”.

Charlotte Fitch Murphy, who runs the Ardleigh House Community Association where Rosemary went every week, said her friend’s death was “absolutely shocking”.

“I can’t believe it’s happened,” she said.
