On May 5 the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections will take place. Anyone who is not registered to vote will not be able to have their say.

Redbridge Council wants to remind residents that the deadline to register to vote in these elections is April 18.

It only takes a few minutes to register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.

A council spokesman reminded people to have their national insurance number with them.

New voting registration came into effect in June 2014, which means anyone who is eligible to vote must register individually, rather than one registration per household.

Being registered with the council for services and paying council tax will not automatically include you on the electoral register.

The spokesman said: “If you don’t register, not only will this mean you can no longer vote, it could also impact on your credit score and could affect you opening a bank account or setting up a mobile phone contract.”
