Redbridge a ‘rogue borough’ claims man calling for residents’ permit bays to be open to disabled drivers

A blue parking badge holder has accused Redbridge of being a “rogue borough” for disabled drivers over its policy on residents’ permit bays.

Roger Radford was fined £60 for parking in a residents’ bay in Spratt Hall Road, Wanstead, in February.

He believed his blue badge entitled him to park there.

Mr Radford said: “Other boroughs always allow blue badges to park in residents’ bays. Redbridge is a rogue borough as far as the disabled are concerned.”

Newham Council’s website says all permit holder bays are open to blue badge holders but Barking and Dagenham Council’s website does not specify and Waltham Forest says parking in resident or business pays is not allowed.

After Mr Radford complained, the council added more information on blue badge parking to its website.

A spokesman added: “The Department of Transport handbook, which is issued with every Blue Badge, lists residents’ bays among the places where blue badge holders cannot park.”
