It is thought the man was driving a black BMW in Ilford Town Centre when police recognised the vehicle.

But he failed to stop and was chased down Green Lane towards Seven Kings, it is said.

He stopped the car and ran up Buckingham Road but was caught in front of St Mary the Virgin Church in High Road at around 3.30pm.

Four police cars were called to the scene and a dog team was later sent into the churchyard to search for anything the suspect may have dropped.
