Man charged with double murder in Ilford sheltered housing

A 50-year-old man has been charged after two people were stabbed to death in sheltered housing, Cecil Road, Ilford, on Saturday night.

Paul Mallin, of Cecil Road, appeared in Barkingside Magistrates Court today on suspicion of murdering a man in his 80s and a woman, aged in her 50s.

He offered no plea and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.

Officers were called to Fernways sheltered housing at 10.20pm following reports of an assault.

The man and the woman were found with stab wounds and pronounced dead at the scene around 11pm.
