A convicted murderer is still on the run more than a month after escaping from a mental health facility.
Lerone Michael Boye, 27, formerly of Henley Road, Ilford, was sentenced to 28 years in prison for the murder of 17-year-old Kelvin Chibueze.
Kelvin was attending a birthday party at the former Artifex club in High Road, Ilford and was stabbed to death with a foot long blade before collapsing in the nearby Lidl car park.
Boye remains at large and the public has been warned not to approach him but dial 999 if they see him.
Kelvin’s mother Tina said she could not believe that he was still on the run and said she needa answers as to how he was allowed to escape.
She said: “Everyone knew he was a murderer. He’s not a shoplifter or a pickpocket. A policeman should have been with him 24/7.
“I don’t see how a murderer can go to a minimum security facility and just walk out. How can you kill my son and just walk out?”
Boye escaped from the John Howard Centre in Homerton, a medium security medical clinic, on October 16 which would have been Kelvin’s 20th birthday.
He has not been seen since.
Boye was sentenced, together with three other men, at the Old Bailey in December to 28 years imprisonment.
Tina said: “I just want answers. The man who escaped from a mosque was on the news for a week – with Kelvin it was just one day and it’s like well, if he’s gone, he’s gone. That’s not justice.”
She said she plans to meet with her MP and get legal advice before she takes the matter further.
Dean Ablakwa, 29, from north London is due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on January 23 charged with conspiracy to assist an offender to escape from lawful custody.
