Farooq Shah, charged with Mariana Popa murder, committed to appear at Old Bailey

A man charged with murdering Mariana Popa in Ilford Lane will appear at the Old Bailey this week.

Farooq Shah, 20, of Station Road, Forest Gate, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

He was committed to the Central Criminal Court with his case scheduled to be heard on Wednesday.

Mariana, 24, believed to be a Romanian prostitute by police, died at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, in the early hours of October 29 after being found collapsed in Ilford Lane.

She was found to have died of shock, haemorrhage and stab wounds.
