An elderly man who has died after being hit by a van in Norfolk this morning is believed to have been on a group visit from Chigwell.

The man, a pedestrian, was killed in Thetford after being hit by a Mercedes van on Brandon Road at around 11.40am today.

He is believed to have been visiting the town with a group of about 70 people from a society in Chigwell.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said the road remained closed between the A11 roundabout and the Santon Downham junction while emergency services deal with the incident.
