Lisa Reeves, 42, of Jasmine Close, Ilford, was walking her 14-month-old toy poodle, Milo, in the park last week when another dog came running towards them.

She said it took Milo in its mouth before biting his stomach and shaking him around.

He was taken to the vets but died shortly after arriving.

The 56-year-old owner of the attacking dog, who did not wish to be named, volunteered himself to police after the Recorder’s online appeal to help trace him received almost 25,000 shares on Facebook.

Today, he made contact with our paper and said: “I’m very sorry for the family. I can understand why she is so upset.”

His dog, believed to be a mixed Staffordshire bull terrier, has been confiscated by police, while officers are due to question him at Ilford Police Station yesterday this afternoon.
