Creative half-term workshops gave young carers some much needed time out from their caring responsibilities last week.

The youngsters who attend the Indigo Young Carers project in Granville Road, Ilford - run by Barnardo’s - took part in the London-wide Create programme.

The project saw youngsters collaborate with professional musician Neil Valentine creating acoustic inspired music and explored sampling sounds using phone apps.

Create co-founder, Nicky Goulder said: ”It’s great to see how those involved come together and create their own original pieces of music.

“They can come away from the sessions and say ‘we’ve written a song’. That’s a really positive, empowering feeling.”

The three-day project ended with a musical performance of in front of family, friends and staff members.
